Matt Jarvis…. Clever signing or waste of money?

Matt Jarvis…. Clever signing or waste of money?

After rejecting a reported 9 million pound transfer fee from West Ham for winger Matt Jarvis, Wolverhampton Wanderers are holding out for 10 million to lure away their star player. With West Ham preparing another bid to meet that evaluation, Do we think this is a clever signing or a lot of money for a relegated player?

Matt Jarvis made his football league debut as a 17 year old at Gillingham, He racked up over 100 games for The Gills before his £700,000 move to Wolves in 2007. He was an influential figure in the side that gained promotion from the championship. A fast, pacey winger that loves to take on full backs, He puts crosses in the box and his handy from a dead ball situation. Jarvis has one england cap to his name, A 70th minute substitute in the friendly against Ghana in march 2011. Jarvis also has a very high assist rate for a team that is battling relegation season after season.

In my opinion i think the prices of players these days are astronomical and very wide of the mark and Jarvis is no exception. 10 million pounds for a player that has been a big fish in a small pond at Wolves and is now applying his trade in the championship is absurd. Or is it Wolves policy to inflate their prices to ridiculous levels as Steven Fletcher will not be sold for anything under 12 Million pounds.

Don’t get me wrong, Would i like to see Jarvis at West Ham? YES! He’s quick and direct and there is an end product to him, His knack of gaining assists everywhere he’s played at is encouraging as well but 10 million pounds? I don’t think he is anywhere near that money. 6-7 million at least. I come back to the point i made in my Andy Carroll article the other day, We have a budget like everybody else and with only 3 central defender’s, That money could be spent somewhere else!

Personally I think he is a very good player, he reminds me of Etherington, a true winger with real quality on the ball. However, anything over £7 million is completely ridiculous. If they dont budge I would look elsewhere he isn’t that good. People like Drenthe are available for a free now that seems like a bargain in comparison to Jarvis for 10 million!
